Living at
the Academy:
Each of the
double storied boarding house accommodates
40 students. They are designed like homes
not hostels. Each story has its own
comfortably furnished common room with
satellite television and ample space for
socializing. There are no old fashioned
dormitories dark and dingy. Each room has a
window for every bed and accommodates no
more than 10 students. Both the bedrooms and
common rooms can be personalized with poster
and picture frames and other favorite items
to remind them of home. The boarding house
are supervised by experienced residential
married teaching couples who fulfill the
roll of house parents. Many other
resendential faculty members are involved in
the school full program of co-curricular
activities which includes formal dining and
presentation by visiting speakers. All
students whether boarding or day belong to a
small Tutor Group lead by a faculty Tutor
who has responsibility for their personal
welfare and academic progress. The
professional counselors complete the
pastoral team.
Religious
Life:
Thou the
academy is a non-sectarian school we regard
each student’s spiritual growth as being of
equal importance with his or her
intellectual, emotional, physical and social
development. Each individual has the freedom
to practice his or her own religion within a
framework of understanding, respect and
tolerance for the beliefs of others.
Visiting speakers from time to time present
a variety of religious and secular themes as
a part of the program of Personal and Social
Education, students have the opportunity to
discuss their own and others religions.
Spiritual advise and leadership is available
to those who require it and a non
denominational open air meditation centre is
reserved for prayer and quiet thought. Yoga
and Mediation is taught and practiced daily
as a means to concentration, inner
tranquility and more effective study. The
curriculum add and co-curriculum are imbued
with a strong emphasis on the development of
sound value and responsibility.
Life on campus
A Family
The pastoral life in the school is based on
the house system. Every student is assigned
to a house. Each house has its own
independent hostel supervised by a house
mentor, usually a senior faculty member and
a full time house mother, who invariably is
a lady teacher. The house mentor is assisted
by a group of tutors and the house mother is
assisted by a group of ayahs working around
the clock. The house mentor being in charge
of the house oversees the all round
development of the student.
Living

The senior students are encouraged to mentor
the new and junior students. Any form of
ragging is strongly discouraged and attracts
heavy penalties. The school boasts of
healthy conventions, where in the old
students welcome the new batch of students
with social evenings and ensure that they
take on to the school life without much
missing. Every student is assigned to a
student mentor for the first few weeks so as
to familiarize with the school
infrastructure, practices and ethos.
Tutor, Local Parent,
Guide, Teacher & Friend...
Each student is assigned to a house tutor,
who acts as a local parent as well as the
tutor. As a parent, the tutor along with the
house mother aids, assists and guides the
student in all non academic activities. As a
tutor, he is responsible for the students’
achievement in academics, sports or
activities or any other extra curricular
activity. For almost anything the tutor is
the first point of contact for the student.
Points are awarded to the students
throughout the year for their performance in
academics, cultural, literary and sports
activities, discipline and behaviour and the
House getting the highest marks is adjudged
the Best House of the Year. |
